Botwarren / How it works

How Botwarren works

Botwarren turns the shape of AI coding work into a live pixel-art station. A small agent on your computer notices that a session is working, reduces that to a few fixed status codes, holds them back for about 90 seconds, and publishes them to your ship, where the station draws them. At no point does a prompt, a line of code or a file name have anywhere to go.

  1. 1 / NOTICE

    The agent watches metadata

On your computer, the ship agent notices when Claude Code and Codex session log files change and which project folder a session is in. Optional adapters can also read Herdr and Ninox. It listens on 127.0.0.1 only.

  2. 2 / REDUCE

    Fixed-shape events

Each observation becomes an event made of enums and numbers: working or idle, the kind of step (thinking, reading, editing, running), a stumble flag, a model family, a four-step context gauge, a build result. There is no free-text field to leak a prompt or a path.

  3. 3 / HOLD

    About 90 seconds late

Events wait about 90 seconds by default (30 seconds for the first minutes of a new ship, so your first crew member shows up quickly). The delay is an extra safeguard, not the filter: private details are removed before anything is published.

  4. 4 / DRAW

    The station

Your ship at your-name.botwarren.com draws the events: a crew member per session, machines for builds, a release shuttle for deploys and a beacon when a release is verified in production.

What is real, and what is not

  • Each crew member is one real session. Its name and personality are made up for fun; its state comes from the real session.
  • A passing build is never shown as a deployment. "Battling a bug" is inferred from a coarse task category or a failing pipeline and is labelled as inferred.
  • Stars, planets and other scenery are decoration. Anything marked DEMO is synthetic preview activity.
  • Sound is off until you switch it on; voices are AI-generated and clearly synthetic, and every spoken line has a caption.

Controls you keep

  • Pause: botwarren pause stops anything new from leaving your computer (botwarren resume continues).
  • See the queue: a local ops room on your own computer shows exactly what is waiting to be published, before it is published.
  • Link-only ships: new ships are not listed in Browse ships until you choose. The link still works for anyone who has it, so it is not a password.
  • Revoke and uninstall: revoke the ship's key from your account; the uninstaller removes the service and, if you ask, your local data.

Check it yourself

The ship agent is open source (Apache-2.0). Run botwarren status, watch the agent with any network monitor (it talks only to your ship's address on botwarren.com), and read the plain-English what Botwarren reads and sends. Privacy details: privacy and data handling.
